He competed at the highest level and was a successful manager into the late 50's with Wilson Cycles and Elswick - Hopper but also in helping to establish the Wilson-O'Brien team and the Ovaltine Alp Team. in 1948 Wilson Cycles was born in Sheffield.

Amongst those riding a J F Wilson frame in their peak was Ron Coe, 5 Times National Champion. Ron Coe rode for J F Wilson between 1957 and 1959 initially with the Wilson team but later with Elswick Hopper. Age of frame 1998

This frame has been stored for a few years. There are some drops of surface rust here and there across the frame . It's not awful and adds to character if anything.

There is evidence of painting - it's easy to spot on close inspection as it does not match original colour. A good place to spot this on the Top Tube Drive side near Head tub and just below 3rd Cable Guide but also the lower stays look like this colour has been applied thickly and dried in the cold. There is nothing to suggest anything for concern. The frame still looks good even with this.

A note about our used Items. All Items are genuine vintage and whilst in full working order, may also so show signs of age or own some distinguishing marks. As well as these signs of character there may also be some signs of rust (faint and few) and some signs of mottling on the chrome. Where possible we have tried to show these on photographs. These small imperfections are commensurate with what is expected of a bike of this age.
